A high-level conversation on the key current global financial and economic policy
challenges, bringing together academics and policymakers from all G20 countries
and identifying policy implications for both Europe and India.
The G20 is in the process of establishing itself as the prominent format for political
discussion of global financial and economic issues. Still, there are significant
diff erences of appreciation amongst G20 countries. Positions taken by developed
countries are widely commented, but emerging countries have fewer opportunities
to express their views and to promote their own expertise at international level.
The event attempts at filling this gap and will take place in New Delhi in September
2009, shortly before the G20 Pittsburg summit and the October meetings of the IMF
and World Bank. It will gather ca. 100 academics and senior policymakers, mostly
from central banks and finance ministries of G20 countries and from international
organizations, as well as representatives from the private sector.
A short document is expected to be published jointly by Bruegel, CEPII and
ICRIER following the conference and building on its proceedings. If successful, the
conference could later be organized on an annual basis.
